EDIT: Sorry, seemingly copying and pasting into an online spell check and back again chopped the text up.

The fourth line of the second paragraph should read:
"rpmlib(FileDigests) ] 251,696      294K/s   in 0.8s

2010-01-19 17:01:10 (294 KB/s) - `get_iplayer-current.noarch.rpm.4' saved [251696/251696]"

Only then it should say "seems good i thought, but i ran yum..."

So, sorry for all my text on this page, as im possibly only one of a few outside of Japan seriously using Vine Linux, any answers probably wont help many people.

But, this distro is so fast and so stable, i really reccomend installing it to breath new life into an old computer.

Cheers.

Firstly, please use the help forums which now exist (as of a few hours ago!).

RH7.2 is really so old so it's never been tested as far as I know. RH72 didn't use yum.

You are making a basoc mistake with wget. Make sure you delete the file before you try to download it otherise wget just downloads another copy and appends .[number].

The chmod command shouldn't return any text so that is correct.

I suspect you'll not get ffmpeg working without problems and you'll need to compile your own flvstreamer.

Hi, I am using Vine Linux (a fork of Red Hat Linux 7.2 ). It is a Japanese distro with little to no English language support, awkward on my part I know, but it is so fast and the only stable gnome distro iv found yet for my old ibook G4. I have been trying to install get_iplayer for days and am at my wits end (very new to linux).

I try to install the rpm package in the terminal but am told:
id3v2 is needed by get_iplayer-2.63-1.noarch
perl(MP3::Info) is needed by get_iplayer-2.63-1.noarch
rpmlib(FileDigests) ] 251,696      294K/s   in 0.8s

2010-01-19 17:01:10 (294 KB/s) - `get_iplayer-current.noarch.rpm.4' saved [251696/251696]

Seems good i thought. But i ran "yum --nogpgcheck localinstall get_iplayer-current.noarch.rpm" as root, but the command yum was not recognized. Though I have installed yum and have a yum-3.2.25 folder in my home directory.

When I run the manual install commands, for "wget https://linuxcentre.net/get_iplayer/get_iplayer" i get:

--2010-01-19 17:04:36--  https://linuxcentre.net/get_iplayer/get_iplayer

100%[======================================>] 321,674      375K/s   in 0.8s

2010-01-19 17:04:37 (375 KB/s) - `get_iplayer.2' saved [321674/321674]

and when i run the "chmod 755 get_iplayer" command it says nothing but gives me a new "[root@localhost michael]#"

When i run any of the get_iplayer commands they are not recognized and when i type rpm -e or -V it tells me "package get_iplayer-2.63-1.noarch.rpm is not installed"

Ps- i have tryed different versions of the rpm package but get similar messages.

Massive mail I know but after experimenting with linux this past month i have come to realize that the devil is in the detail.

Any help would be massively appreciated, i got so used to using get_iplayer in Ubuntu and as Flash player in linux ppc is not supported it was the only way i could watch those great documentaries. Unfortunetaly Ubuntu is slow and unstable on my old laptop.

Cheers.
