If I do the following command
get_iplayer <pid> --info
as well as receiving the info on the program, it also creates an empty directory of the program name. I then have to go and delete the directory if I decide not to download the program. Here's what's in my options file.

I think this similar behaviour must be related:
I would expect `get_iplayer -i --pid b007cjl0` to simply show the information about this program, not to also try to download it (which in the above output I cancelled with a ctrl-C).
Please note that I'm not using latest at the moment but (I think) v2.55.
I have been meaning to upgrade for a couple of weeks, to reproduce this issue more thoroughly and maybe even take a look at the code. But I add this diagnostic because I figure it may be related to James' report.

The creation of empty subdirs is a known bug when you get metadata or info and use the --subdir option.
I think the OP meant to say they used 'get_iplayer <index> --info' as the <pid> is not searched for by default.
The --pid will always result in an attempted recording as per the usage. Using --info just additionally gets programme info. If you just want the info based on thepid use: 'get_iplayer --fields=pid <pid> --info'

The empty folders are also created when using the --stream option with the subdir option set in the main options file, but I already emailed linuxcentre on this one.

The incorrect creation of subdirs when streaming etc is now fixed in v2.73.
