[solved] iphone versions not available for TV transmission

Help for using get_iplayer

I don't have an iPhone, and I don't use the TV iphone mode for anything else, so I'm not competent to comment. Even so, I have been puzzled that since tvdavid asked the question none of the TV programmes I had looked at with --info included iphone in the list of modes (and I thought they used to). I have just tried downloading a programme which didn't show iphone in the list of modes with --tvmode iphone, and it worked. I then looked more carefully at the list of modes in --info and saw iphone1 was there. Eventually I realised I had --info in the command line with --get, and the second time it was run it was giving a different result. In other words
--info --tvmode flashhigh (in my preferences) is different from
--info --tvmode iphone

FAQ4 warns that iphone modes sometimes take longer than flash modes to become available. I guess all anyone who wants the iphone mode can do is to put --mode iphone or
--tvmode iphone in the PVR, and wait for the PVR to retrieve it when it becomes available.

Many thanks John for the reply. I am beginning to get a little more used to the different modes available and how they work now -although I am still unable to get an up-to-date ffmpeg working with Mepis- so I am still using the iphone mode. I will adjust my preferences accordingly.

I'm using get_iplayer 2.52 (and loving it) on Ubuntu.
I also find that iphone mode is not available.
For instance, Bottom Line and Wallander, both programs apparently available since Saturday:

Code: Select all
alan@x:~$ get_iplayer 'Bottom Line' --info |grep modesizes
modesizes:      default: flashhigh1=175MB,flashhigh2=175MB,flashstd1=105MB,flashstd2=105MB,flashvhigh1=330MB,flashvhigh2=330MB,n95_3g1=22MB,n95_wifi1=40MB

alan@x:~$ geti 'Wallander' --info |grep modesizes
modesizes:      audiodescribed: flashhigh1=519MB,flashhigh2=519MB
modesizes:      default: flashhigh1=519MB,flashhigh2=519MB,flashstd1=313MB,flashstd2=313MB,flashvhigh1=978MB,flashvhigh2=978MB,n95_3g1=66MB,n95_wifi1=120MB

Apologies, I assumed this was something everyone was seeing and was confirming that programmes DO work on an iPhone. And it turned out I was not on the latest version. Here was my usage (under XP). I will try the latest release and see if the problem goes away.

Code: Select all
pvrsearch = bottomline
        search0 = the bottom line
        type = tv

C:\Program Files\get_iplayer>perl.exe get_iplayer.pl --pvr
get_iplayer v2.56, Copyright (C) 2008-2010 Phil Lewis
  This program comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details use --warranty.
  This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain
  conditions; use --conditions for details.

Running PVR Searches:
bottomline
Matches:
721:    The Bottom Line: Series 4 - Episode 5, BBC News 24, Factual,Lifestyle & Leisure,Money,TV, default

INFO: 1 Matching Programmes
INFO: Checking existence of default version
INFO: No specified modes (iphone) available for this programme with version 'default' (try using --modes=flashhigh,flashstd,flashvhigh,n95_3g,n95_wifi,subtitles
)
ERROR: Failed to record 'The Bottom Line: Series 4 - Episode 5 (b00r9pxh)'

Thanks, I had wondered why iphone format wasn't working, had assumed a BBC issue... But Ipdl worked fine, so checked here...

Hi

I just tried an updated get_iplayer (2.72), removed the ~/.get_iplayer directory to be sure, then failed to download stuff with iphone mode.

Instead I get sent the signed version, very strange.

The programme is available on the website.

I try to select non signed:

$ get_iplayer --versions=default 'http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00qsx4r'
get_iplayer v2.72, Copyright (C) 2008-2010 Phil Lewis
This program comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details use --warranty.
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain
conditions; use --conditions for details.

INFO: Trying pid: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00qsx4r using type: tv
INFO Trying to stream pid using type tv
INFO: pid not found in tv cache
INFO: No versions of this programme were selected (signed are available)

Any ideas?

Not really since this is the default behaviour if you select a prog which only has a signed version available.

This is expected.
